Product Info: Galanthamine (also spelled in galantamine) is a tertiary alkaloid derived from snowdrop and closely related species. It acts as a reversible competitive acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor, while acts weaker on butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). It is used in the treatment of disorders of the central nervous system and may be used as an antidote to nonpolarizing muscle relaxants. Galantamine hydrobromide is a white to almost white powder; sparingly soluble in water; insoluble chloroform, ether and alcohol. The chemcial designation is (4aS,6R,8aS)-4a,5,9,10,11,12-hexahydro-3- methoxy-11- methyl-6H-benzofuro[3a,3,2ef]- [2]-benzazepin-6-ol hydrobromide.

Anticholinesterase agents (cholinesterase inhibitors) are compounds that prevents the hydrolysis of acetylcholine by acetylcholinesterase and permit high levels of acetylcholine to accumulate at reactive sites. Reversible competitive or noncompetitive inhibitor of cholinesterase is used in therapeutic uses and as a drug to treat diseases including myasthenia gravis, Alzheimer's disease, and other central nervous system disorders. It is used as an antidote to anticholinergic poisoning. Quasi irreversible inhibitor of cholinesterase is used as a insecticide, and chemical weapon or nerve gas that can be deadly to human or animal.
